When you consider the goal of the spiritual path, what qualities come to mind regarding awakening?
Is it an emptying out that creates a calm, clear state that’s unaffected by life’s ups and downs?
Or perhaps an intense fullness or feeling of love, bliss, and sacredness? Maybe it’s a mix of both, or something else entirely.
We all have our own visions, but most of us lean toward either a sense of emptiness or a sense of fullness. Many of us have experienced both. Understanding these orientations can deepen our spiritual and meditation practice.
In my latest podcast episode, The Practice of Emptiness: Dissolving the Illusion of Solidity, we dive into the meditation practice of emptiness—a powerful technique to help us see reality as it truly is, free from distractions and illusions.
Meditating on emptiness enables us to break down the mind’s thought structure, so it no longer holds together and grabs our attention. It’s a bit like dismantling a puzzle to reveal that the pieces aren’t as solid and real as they seem. This deconstruction helps us let go of superficial layers of our experience, and clears the way for the discovery of the profound fullness, depth and sacredness at the heart of reality.
This episode includes a guided meditation exploring this technique, so I encourage you to find a time to listen when you won’t be interrupted.
